A nucleosome is the basic unit of DNA packaging in eukaryotes, consisting of a segment of DNA wound in sequence around four histone protein cores.  This structure is often compared to thread wrapped around a spool.

Nucleosomes form the fundamental repeating units of eukaryotic chromatin, which is used to pack the large eukaryotic genomes into the nucleus while still ensuring appropriate access to it.  In mammalian cells approximately 2 m of linear DNA have to be packed into a nucleus of roughly 10 µm diameter.  

Nucleosomes are folded through a series of successively higher order structures to eventually form a chromosome; this both compacts DNA and creates an added layer of regulatory control, which ensures correct gene expression.

Warren Andrews had just finished putting up balloons for his stepdaughter’s 18th birthday party at their suburban home in Mayflower, Arkansas, when his wife came inside and said something was wrong. After stepping out of his house, and taking one glance, he immediately dialed 911.

“I don’t know what’s going on, but I’ve got a river of oil coming down the street at me,” Andrews told the operator. Five minutes later, the slick of noxious black crude spewing from a ruptured Exxon Mobil pipeline was eight feet wide, six inches deep and growing fast.

Exxon is refusing to let reporters anywhere near the accident. They’re also controlling the airspace above the spill. They don’t want you to see what’s happening. TOO BAD, EXXON.

So unfair,” said the diehard ‘Belieber’ of the persecuted Jewish teen who, after hiding from the Nazis for two years in a cramped attic, died of typhus in the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp just weeks before its liberation. “What makes her so special that she gets a shout out? I retweet him every day and he mentions her by name and calls her a ‘great girl?’ Ugh.” McNeal went on to say that she was so envious of Frank that she wanted to “literally die,” adding that “some girls just have all the luck.”

This is so sad. I wonder if people realize how poignant this image is, and what it really represents. Suicide/depression is not a phase, it is a disease and an illness that eats away at you every single day. it should be taken just as seriously as cancer or any other terminal illness, and unfortunately, it’s not.
